A past LP of this game by Wind God Sety is on the archive and used an earlier translation.Ī note on names: this translation is from 2014. The one I am using is from Project Naga, translated by BookofHolsety. Genealogy has had a variety of fan translations. Genealogy was never released outside of Japan, and we are only able to play it due to the work of fan translators. With the release of Three Houses, now is an excellent time to look back at Genealogy, as you will discover that it was a major source of inspiration for the story, characters, and setting of that game. Each chapter, however, is absolutely enormous, with the map often spanning an entire country and containing multiple objectives to capture. Possibly the most unique feature of the game is that there are only twelve chapters, compared to the typical 20-30 chapters in most Fire Emblem games. At the same time, it lacks many other things considered essentials, like the ability to double or perform a critical without a particular skill, or trading between character inventories. It also established a feature that would come back in a big way almost a decade later with marriage between characters creating children as playable units. It introduced many mechanics that went on to become Fire Emblem staples, like the weapon triangle, personal skills, and relationships between characters translating into in-game bonuses. It remains a singular experience within the franchise.
